Аbstract: The article is a review of the book by Larisa G. Orel «And It’s All about Him…», consisting of 17 essays on the life and work of the famous Kuban regional history researcher Vasily N. Orel. In the book the practical application of applied culturology, the field of humanitarian knowledge, focused on solving practical problems of regional culture, was found. The leitmotiv of the essays is the idea of the variety of scientific studies of Vasily N. Orel. At the same time his devotion to local lore, literary criticism, and the history of the region which he dealt with the entire conscious life remained unchanged. While remaining an adherent of the best traditions of Russian study of local lore, Vasily N. Orel, nevertheless, introduced his own vi- sion of the problem, local color and the peculiarities of the way of life of the people, in particular the Cossacks, into each scientific research.
