Editorial Policy

Aims and Scope

The journal Heritage of Centuries (Nasledie vekov) publishes results of completed original research on issues of cultural heritage in various fields of modern humanitarian knowledge (history, cultural studies, art criticism, art history, etc.). Published articles reflect results of research on the heritage of the past, the current state of historical and cultural monuments, as well as results of methodological studies that determine approaches to the understanding, studying and protecting of cultural heritage in the future.

The journal publishes results of applied and basic research, descriptions of fundamentally new scientific methods and approaches, overviews on selected problems (taking into account the current state-of-the-art research), reviews of research articles.

The journal only accepts for publication original manuscripts previously not published anywhere and not submitted for publication to any other journal.

The journal is intended for a broad range of experts in cultural heritage: Russian and international scholarly community, professional researchers, educators, teachers, undergraduates, and all those interested in the topic.

The journal serves as the basis for forging links among scholars from different regions of Russia and other countries.

For better understanding of problems and results described in the articles, each has an extended abstract in English.

The decision on publication is made by the Editorial Board after reviewing and considering the compliance of the submission with the subject area of the journal, the relevance of the problem it discusses, its theoretical and applied novelty and value, and its quality.

Open Access Policy

Heritage of Centuries (Nasledie vekov) is an open access journal. This journal provides immediate access to its content following the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Our open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition. It means that articles have free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Reviewing

The Procedure for Reviewing manuscripts received by the Editorial Board of the journal is described in a separate document.

Reviewing aims at ensuring the publication of the highest quality manuscripts. It determines the reliability, value and originality of relevant studies; it also improves the quality of manuscripts that are to be published.

Reviewing is based on the principles of objectivity, impartiality, transparency, confidentiality, quality and high standards of the reviewer’s work.

 

Indexing

Articles published in the journal are indexed by the following services:

Russian Scientific Citation Index (RSCI), a database of publications by Russian researchers published in Russian and foreign titles. The RSCI project has been developed by the Scientific Electronic Library (elibrary.ru) since 2005.

Google Scholar, a freely accessible web search engine that indexes the full text of scholarly literature across an array of publishing formats and disciplines. The Google Scholar index includes most peer-reviewed online journals of Europe and America’s largest scholarly publishers, plus scholarly books and other non-peer reviewed journals.

Journal List of the Russian Higher Attestation Commission (VAK journals), the list of scholarly peer-reviewed journals in which the main results of dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Science and Doctor of Science must be published.

The journal is included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission by Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation No. 21-r of 12 February 2019 for the following specialties:

Publication Ethics

The Publication Ethics of the journal is described in a separate document.

The Editorial Board of Heritage of Centuries (Nasledie vekov) commits to the internationally accepted principles of publication ethics expressed, in particular, in the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) http://publicationethics.org/ and the Ethical Code of Academic Periodicals http://web.ccsenet.org/ethical-guidelines.html, as well as takes into account the valuable experience of reputable international journals and publishers.

 

Publication Fees

When submitted manuscripts are accepted for publication, authors or their institutions pay a one-time Article Processing Charge (APC) of 3,000 rubles (approx. 40$) to cover the costs of manuscript processing, professional editing and production of articles, web hosting, and archiving.

The APC can be canceled by a decision of the Editorial Board.

 

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in a reviewer’s own research without the expressed written consent of the author. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.

Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to submitted manuscripts.

 

Plagiarism Detection

All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using the Antiplagiat Plagiarism Detection Software. The main text uniqueness rate should be more than 75% (according to the “Antiplagiat” report). If plagiarism is detected, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on plagiarism are followed.

 

Preprint and Postprint Policy

Prior to acceptance and publication in Heritage of Centuries (Nasledie vekov) authors may make their submissions available as preprints on personal or public websites.

As part of the submission process, authors are required to confirm that the submission has not been previously published, nor has been submitted. After a manuscript has been published in Heritage of Centuries (Nasledie vekov) we suggest that the link to the article on the journal’s website is used when the article is shared on personal or public websites.
